Activities

French / I.T. / Music

Pupils in 5th & 6th classes are afforded the opportunity to study a European Language (French) - visit www.mlpsi.ie.

The school has a computer room with 18 PCs and an Interactive Whiteboard, while each classroom in the main building is also equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard.

Children are encouraged to join the school band and choir. Each year the school takes part in the Féíle Ceoil in Athlone and the Hallelujah Concert in the RDS, Dublin. Children in Senior Infants, First & Second classes are also taught the tin whistle.

Sport

The promotion of sport is an important part of the characteristic spirit of the school. Pupils are coached in the skills of gaelic football, basketball, rugby, hurling and hockey. The Active School Week has become an annual event in the school calendar and parents are encouraged to get involved. The School Sports Day, first held in 1982, is one of the highlights of the school year where the emphasis is on participation, fun and enjoyment. Team events e.g. tug-of-war, relays, and fun games are an important part of the day.

Green Flag & Art

The school is the holder of three prestigious European Green Flag Awards from An Taisce. We received our first flag in 2005 after working hard to make our school more environmentally friendly. In 2007 the school was awarded its second flag for its work in conserving energy. The school was awarded its third flag in May 2009 (Theme: Water Conservation).

Visual Arts
An art teacher, Ms. Eithne Gallagher, visits the school weekly and facilitates lessons for the pupils throughout the year.
