Uniform / School Tracksuit: Children should wear the complete school uniform at all times. School tracksuit should be worn for P.E. Tracksuits (€45) can be purchased in the school.
Identification: School jumpers and tracksuitsshould bear your child’s name clearlyso that they can be easily identified if mislaid.
Homework: Please check your child’s homework nightly and sign the homework journal.
Lunch: The school is continuing with its healthy lunch policy. Sweet items are discouraged while crisps and chewing gum are not allowed. Children should bring their own drinks to school i.e. water, juices.
School Transport: Please encourage your child to exercise care, be of good behaviour and be courteous to the driver and classmates while on the bus. Seat belts must be worn – please advise your child accordingly.
Safety - Parking: With the exception of one bus, which operates from the front gate, traffic should approach the school from the church road. Where children are being collected at the front of the school, parents should collect their child from inside the front gate. Parents should not turn at the roadway opposite the school, as the view of oncoming traffic is restricted. Please leave the area designated for School Buses free at all times. Do not park or turn at the school’s entrance gate. Do not park at Kearneys’ or at Maddens’.
Collecting your child: When it is necessary for a pupil to leave school early, the teacher must be informed in writing in advance. Parents/guardians are asked to call to the classroom to collect the child and to accompany the child to the classroom on his/her return to school. Any person collecting a child on behalf of the parent will be permitted to take the child only if the parent contacts the school beforehand. Infants who go home at 2 p.m. should not climb over or sit on the perimeter wall.
Communication: The school uses the “text-a-parent” facility to communicate important messages to parents. Accordingly, it is very important that we have an up-to-date mobile number for you. Please inform the school if your contact number has changed over the summer. An emergency contact number should also be written in your child’s journal.
Absenteeism / Attendance: In the event of your child being absent please inform the class teacher in writing. Please use ‘absence notes’ at the back of the homework journals.
School Website: The school website www.tubberclarens.ie contains a lot of useful information e.g. news about recent and upcoming events, class pages, links to educational websites, informative booklets for parents, holiday schedule, monthly newsletter. Copies of the booklets listed on the website are also available from the school.
Photographs: During the year photographs of children involved in school activities e.g. sport, music etc. may appear on the school website or in the local newspaper. If you have any reservations please contact the school.
Holidays: You will receive a copy of the holiday schedule for the school year shortly.
Insurance: The school has once again covered the cost of Pupil Personal Accident Insurance. This provides for school activities and also includes direct travel to and from these activities. Further information is available at www.allianz.ie (Schools section)
Birthday Invitations: The school would prefer if invitations for birthday parties were not given out in school. On a number of occasions one or two children in a class have been left out causing unnecessary hurt and isolation. Occasionally, parents contact the school requesting telephone numbers re birthday invitations. Please contact the school if you do not wish your number to be given out.
Cost:The school is conscious of the general financial challenges which are being experienced by many families. The prices we charge for tracksuits, copies and other school material are the prices we pay the suppliers. The school also subsidises the cost of buses for various school activities.
School Mass: To mark the beginning of the school year, Mass will be celebrated on Friday 30thSeptember @ 10 a.m.in Tubberclare Church.
Dates to note
- Halloween Break – School closed Monday 31st October to Friday 4th November.
